PREVENTIVE EYE EXAMINATION
[1/4]
What is glaucoma?
Glaucoma is a group of diseases that affect the optic nerve and are characterised by progressive loss of optic nerve fibres, a hollowed-out optic nerve head and characteristic visual field defects. The condition is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide.
Elevated intraocular pressure (above 21 mmHg) is the main risk factor for glaucoma. However, in some cases, no elevated intraocular pressure can be detected. Other risk factors, such as changes in the blood flow in the eye and immunological factors, are suspected to be the cause of this disease, which is also known as normal-tension glaucoma. Our clinic has extensive expertise in both conservative and surgical glaucoma treatment.
